The Hair Loft Ltd opened its doors on June 7th, 1980 at 14 E. Pearson St. in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. Originally opened by husband and wife duo Richard and Debi Johnson, The Hair Loft Ltdwas a quick success, expanding in 1982 to offer massage programs, the nail department, waxing, and makeup services.

In 2008, The Hair Loft Ltd moved to River North and expanded to the West Loop in 2015 to celebrate the salon's 35th anniversary.

Today, The Hair Loft Ltd is led by Richard and Debi's son, Benjamin Jay. While being a stylist himself, he is also focused on pushing The Hair Loft Ltd into the future.

A strong technical background, along with a passion and dedication to a purpose of enhancing people's lives, is what makes The Hair Loft Ltd such a special place.

  • Everyyone is equal and service sales are a straightforward commission, no sliding scale. There is also an hourly guarantee to make sure you have guaranteed income.

  • We have a proven career path for stylist’s to grow their talents and business to become six-figure earners.

    • Salon sidekick is our in-house education and coaching program to establish goals so you can confidently raise your service pricing.

    • We don’t use product sales or prebooking goals as benchmarks of a great stylist.

  • There is no “charge” or “deduct” to stylists for product usage. Backbar support, color tools, and even dryers and irons are provided to support our salon team.

    • Need time off or a more flexible schedule? We totally get it and can work with that.

    • Paid vacation is also provided.

  • Salon life is a physical job and fitness can help support a long career. The Hair Loft team gets a discounted rate at Chicago Athletic Clubs.


    • If you’re just getting started or feeling like you’ll never retire, it’s understandable, but best to have a back up plan. We provide a 401k with access financial planning to set you up for a great future.
